Portland War Memorial Plaques - Veterans Description for Public
The Portland War Memorial Plaques, outside the Shire Offices, are dedicated to various personnel who served in times of war including -
*The Victorian Vietnam Veterans Community on the 40th Anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan in Vietnam, 18th August 2006.
*38 Portland and District Servicemen taken prisoner of war including 17 who died in prison.
*34,737 Australian men and women made prisoners of war during the Boer War, First World War, Second World War and Korea. 8,600 of whom died in prison.
*Portland and district ex-service women of the Second World War.
