Statement of Significance
B Listed - Regional Significance
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
This 1860s artisans cottage has regional historical significance as a rare survivor in an area of predominantly 1940s and 1950-8s houses, and for its associations with some of Newtowns earliest artisans including labourers, a barber, a jeweller, a hairdresser and Elizabeth Courtous, a burler. It has regional architectural significance as an intact early cottage with some good intact decorative details. The second, later 1895 gable illustrates its development with two additional rooms and internal chimney, as needs increased.
