STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The single storey brick residence 'Toren', in Laurel Bank Parade, Newtown, was constructed in 1901 for S. Wrathall from designs prepared by the recently formed architectural partnership of Hendy and Apted. This unusual Edwardian villa is dominated by an asymmetrically placed octagonal corner tower enhanced with half timbering and ornamentation derived from the Queen Anne architectural movement. 'Toren' is a notable example of an Edwardian Villa in Geelong and an early representative work of the architects Hendy and Apted.
