Statement of Significance
B Listed - Regional Significance
This house has regional historical significance for its association with the well known Windmill family of quarrymen and tanners. Listed for the first time in 1950 it was owned by John Windmill Jnr. and was located near the 19 acre quarry at the end of Noble Street occupied by the quarrying firm of J and W Windmill Bros. Josiah Windmill, an early Newtown tanner, lived at 245 Noble Street in his retirement. Earlier he occupied a wooden cottage, "Riverdale", near his tannery in Riversdale Road (q.v.). It has the local material on concrete blocks and as a characteristic intact house of the 1940's. It also is interesting for its refined detailing: particularly the window lintels.

Residence - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION
This is a U-shaped, gable-roofed, concrete-block house with a Marseilles cement tile roof. The double-hung timber windows have horizontal glazing bars and includes triples and a corner window. The cross gable breaks pitch and sweeps down cantilevered as a porch. The right-hand gable has a broad stepped chimney decorated with a lozenge of tapestry bricks. There are some refined details: window lintels are formed with splayed blocks and a brick course on the angle forms the gable edge.
The garage, set back behind the building line, is similar construction and the fence is concrete block, with wrought iron vehicular gates.
