Residence - Physical Description 1
Description
53 Weller Street is a beautifully intact example of a modest Bungalow. It is similar to known State Savings Bank houses of the period. It is a single storey house clas in weatherboards. The roof is gabled with corrugated iron cladding. It is an almost symmetrical design except for the side light by the front door. The main part of the house has a gabled roof which travereses the site. A central porch, which extends across most of the front elevation, is formed by a projecting gable which dominates this elevation. The tympanum of the gable has pressed metal and wooden shingles as well as a ventilator. The windows either side of the front door are a significant decorative feature of this house. They are in threes and have opening casements either side of a wider centrally fixed window light which has decorative lead lighting above an arched transom bar. The projecting gable is supported by substantial brick piers and timber columns. These are reflected in the balustrade and fence. An interesting decorative feature is the use of small niches in the four brick piers of the balustrade.
