Residence - Physical Description 1
Description 76 Balliang Street is a symmetrical double fronted Early Victorian residence which is reasonably intact. The building is reputed to have been constructed in brick and clad in timber boards at a later date. Inspection from the street undertaken for this data sheet can not confirm this detail. quotThe facade features double hung sash windows with Victorian architraves, a central entrance with highlight and a hipped concave verandah. Simple timber posts and a timber valance frame are supported on rendered piers that are inappropriate to the style ofthe house. The corrugated iron double hipped roof and rear skillion has been recently reclad. The verandah floor is concrete but would originally have been timber. A rendered chimney protrudes from the roof. The front fence is a later addition and does not complement the Victorian style of the house. HLENLARDNERCONSERVATIONampDESIGN 264PARKST NORTH FITZROY quot3068 034894253 MAY 1995 .
