FORMER OVENS TOLL HOUSE - History
In 1855, tenders were called for by the Council to build a toll house and gate at the new Wangaratta Bridge at Murphy Street. In 1864, the Borough Council took over the collection and it remained in use until 31st December 1873 when it became free to traffic. The toll house remained until the early 20th century and was then demolished.

FORMER OVENS TOLL HOUSE - Heritage Inventory Description
The Ovens Toll House was located on the Wangaratta Bridge. Today the road and bridge have been expanded. A sub station/council pound has been installed on the former site.
