Statement of Significance
This area includes all buildings in Kepler Street between Timor & Koroit Streets that were built before 1910 and also includes the Western Hotel at the junction of Kepler and Timor Streets.
A notable feature is the attractive group of single storey office buildings designed in a simple renaissance style with masonry walls rendered to simulate carved stonework, round headed doors and windows (some with elaborate moulded panels) and roof parapets that link up well with their neighbours. The majority of these buildings were built for and are mostly still used as professional offices; the facades are mainly as originally designed and the trees, hitching posts and scale of these buildings all contribute to this attractive streetscape.
The four buildings at the junction of Kepler and Timor streets form an attractive group of two storey buildings in a simple Italianate renaissance style.
