MOUNT VIEW SHAFT AND ADIT - History
The Mount View mine was one of the minor operations on the Maldon goldfield, It had a relatively short working life and consequently research material is scarce.
The Victorian Mining Bibliography has no entries for the Mount View mine. The only official production record found in VicMine is for the Mount View Shaft (VicMine 10 368993) which produced 33 ozs from 267 tons of ore It is assumed that these statistics are understated.
No official production statistics were found for the lower ad it which presumably, if only due to the extent of the workings, would have been a bigger gold producer than the shaft.
MOUNT VIEW SHAFT AND ADIT - Interpretation of Site

Heritage Inventory Description
MOUNT VIEW SHAFT AND ADIT - Heritage Inventory Description
The evidence for mining activity at this site is the presence of the Mount View shaft just to the east of the lower adit at a slightly higher level and within line of sight. The shaft collar has collapsed to a depth of approximately 5m. where the original rectangular shape of the shaft is to be seen. At this point the shaft sides show the tell-tale marks of timbering. indicating that cages once ran in the shaft. The collapsed collar has a diameter of approximately 5 m. The lower ad it is open and accessible over its entire length. This ad it is approximately 240m long. On the eastern side of the tunnel, approximately 100 m in from the portal, is a chamber approximately 6 m long and 2 m wide. The chamber contains a timber base for a winch and a flooded winze.
