Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Prahran Independent [now Chapel off Chapel] Church - Memorial Window Description & History
First chapel for the Prahran Independent Church commenced building in 1858 and a window of remembrance was unveiled on 22 April 1928 as a 'monument to pioneers', however the inclusion of a stylised Australian Military Forces badge expanded this remembrance to servicemen of the First World War. The Reverend Mossom outlined the symbolism at the unveiling ceremony: the general colouring of blue to denote 'hope', the crossed trumpets recognising the 'call to service', the dove of 'peace' and the centrally placed the emblazoned cross symbolising 'devotion, sacrifice and self-denunciation'. In 1977 the building became part of the Uniting Church and it is now a performance space owned by Stonnington City Council.
