Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Kew St. Hilary's Anglican Church - Memorial Window Description & History
This window commemorated the friendship of two women who had been nursing sisters during the 1914-18 war - Alice Margaret Rowe and May Eleanor Hall. The church also had a Peace Memorial in the form of a pipe organ, an opus sectile picture on the outer wall of the friendship room, and an Honour Board with the names of all parishioners who took part in the 1914-18 War.
Alice Margaret Rowe from St. Arnaud and May Eleanor Hall from East Kew were both staff nurses who embarked at Melbourne on HMAT Karoola, on 25 April 1917. It is not known whether the two women knew each other prior to embarkation but they became life long friends.
