FORMER ROYAL HOTEL SITE - History
The site has had a variety of uses since 1854 across the site, including the Royal Hotel, the Cobb and Co. Livery Stables, Vulcan Foundry, and Salvation Army Barracks. Ratebooks note that in 1854, the three storey brick hotel (licensed to John Wiggins) consisted of four rooms, bar, kitchen, cellar, 6 stall stables and a coach house. By 1857, the hotel had seventeen rooms. The Salvation Army Barracks consisted of two large open rooms in 1854, which was turned into fourteen small rooms in 1855.

The site is currently occupied by Officeworks, and associated driveway, fronting on to Malop Street and a large sealed carpark at the rear of the building.
