STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCEArchitecturally, a distinctive Federation Bungalow style house with unsusual detailing and historically linked with one of Geelong's oldest drapery firms, run by the Jacobs family.
EXTERNAL INTEGRITY:
Generally original, except replacement of the fence.
STREETSCAPE:
Forms a significant pair with 15 Swanston Street and contributes to precinct 3.06, an Edwardian and Victorian era residential era.

DESCRIPTION
A large hipped and gable-roofed timber house, 17 Swanston Street offers an unusual bowed and shingled gable to the street view. Under it, a wide verandah extends around the corner of the building under the main pyramid-hi roof. Details included the fretter verandah brackets.
Residence - Jacob's House - Physical Description 2
Largely intact with upper level addition & large, distinctive bowed gable end clad in shingles with return verandah beneath. Weatherboard, hipped & gable roof clad in corrugated metal sheeting, battened roughcast & timber brackets to gable end, red brick chimney with terracotta pots. Verandah has square timber posts with timber brackets, timber windows, including sash & picture type. Casements windows to bays with leadlight highlights & timber brackets. Side entry with leadlight highlight & sidelights.
