STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE:
74 Swanston Street has architectural significance at a local level. Although relocated, 74 Swanston Street is a reasonably intact timber cottage retaining characteristic siting, form and typical details, and is a representative example of Victorian housing which was once common in the Geelong Region.

Residence - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION
This reasonably intact double fronted cottage has a symmetrical facade constructed of weatherboard, and a steep gable roof with a rear skillion. The hipped corrugated iron skill ion verandah with simple timber posts and timber valance are appropriate to the style ofthe building. Notable details include the delicate timber barge board on the south facade of the house . Typical double hung sash windows with four panes are positioned on either side of the entrance, and a chimney with terracotta pots protrudes from the roof. The brick fence at the front of the site is not appropriatetothe style ofthe residence. The front door nowhasasecuritydoor,and the roofhas been recently reclad. The verandah floor is concrete, however it is likely that it was originally timber.Anoutbuilding ofthesame.periodisfoundattherear of the site. 74Swanston Streethas a small garden at the front, and forms part ofthe residential streetscape.
