LAMP POST OUTSIDE CORIO HOTEL
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The lamp post on the pavement in front of the Corio Hotel has association with early gas industry in Geelong and the move to light the streets in 1861.
The cast iron lamp and lantern of delicate modeled ironworks is of unknown date, but a rare survivor of the earliest form of street lighting in Geelong. The lamp is of the great aesthetic interest.
