Residence - Physical Description 1
Description
The site at 2-4 Carr Street has visual connections with the Barwon River and the Ocean Grove reserve to the east, together with the Ozone Road jetty and Barwon Heads bridge to the south and substantial cypress trees to the north. This house also has visual connections with single storey houses of mixed styles and periods. This house has a short front setback and a large side setback to the north, as shown on the 1974 BHSA Plan of Drainage.
The horizontal weatherboard, two storey second storey within the roof space interwar Californian Bungalow house is characterised by a steeply pitched corrugated Colorbond gable roof that traverses the site, together with a skillion dormer, minor single storey gable form and a flat roofed section to the east. An early chimney adorns the roofline. The early timber framed windows are arranged singularly on the ground floor and are double hung with sixpaned high lights. The first floor windows are arranged in horizontal banks of three and appear to be of the casement type. The first floor windows and two side windows to the south have tiled window hoods supported by plain timber brackets.
An early decorative feature of the design is the gable brackets and battening.
