The house at 1 Margate Street is aesthetically significant at a LOCAL level. Residence - Narruc - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION
The site at 1 Margate Street has visual connections to other pitched roof, weatherboard houses of mixed styles and periods. This house has a typical front setback, but a wide side setback due to the double allotment. These setbacks are shown on the 1978 BHSA Plan of Drainage. The front is bound by an appropriate timber picket fence, approximately 1300mm high. This fence is punctuated by a substantial pine tree which forms an urban focus in the streetscape.
The symmetrical, single storey, horizontal weatherboard Victorian house is characterised by a hipped roof form with a concave verandah projecting towards the street frontage. These roof forms appear to be clad in corrugated zincalume. Narrow overhangs are a feature of the eaves. The early timber framed windows have been replaced with aluminium framed sliding types. The central, timber and glazed front door with side lights appears to be original.
A feature of the modest design of the house is the concave verandah which is supported by recent square timber posts. Description
