STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
'Toongabbie' (formerly 'Burnham Lodge') was erected in the mid 1850's for CS Friend a Pioneer Geelong Solicitor and Investor. The architect is not known for this red brick quoined single storey villa of Regency/Italiante stylistic origins. The house is notable for its early associations with the development of the Bellarine Peninsula and its restrained Regency derived architectural character. The verandah is a distinctive element but appears altered from the original.
