Statement of Significance
89 Clarke Street is a well-preserved example of the transition from the speculative narrow frontages further along the street to a minimum 33 feet frontage width set by council to lift the residential amenity of the suburb which had hitherto been occupied mainly by industry.

89 Clarke Street - Physical Description 1
89 Clarke Street is externally a well-preserved house of a type which was repeated many times in Northcote and elsewhere, particularly during the period 1890-1905. The block-fronted timber boarding, the striped concave verandah roof, the bracketed eaves to a hipped roof and the cast-iron friezes are characteristic features. The front fence has been reconstructed.
