Residence - Physical Description 1
The site at 8 Grandview Parade has visual connections to a substantial pine tree to the north, together with other single and double storey pitched roof houses of mixed styles and periods. The house has a typical front setback, but wide side setbacks with driveway access along the side. These setbacks are shown on the 1974 BHSA Plan of Drainage.4 The modest, asymmetrical, single storey, horizontal weatherboard Late Victorian cottage is characterised by a gable roof that traverses the site, together with a gable perpendicular to it and a skillion verandah that projects towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in corrugated colorbond. Narrow overhangs are a feature of the eaves. An early chimney adorns the roofline. The early timber framed windows are double hung and are twelve-paned. The timber and glazed doors at the front appear to be recent, as are the windows at the side. A feature of the design is the front skillion verandah, although it is supported by recent square timber posts. Early decorative features of the design include the gable ventilators and possibly the worked timber finials.
