The Memorial gates at 51-53 Mount Pleasant Road are historically significant at a LOCAL level. They are a memorial to local soldiers who fought and died in the First World War. The Memorial gates at 51-53 Mount Pleasant Road are scientifically significant at a LOCAL level. They illustrate craftsmanship in the rough-faced granite piers with shallow obelisks and plinths.
The Memorial gates at 51-53 Mount Pleasant Road are socially significant at a LOCAL level. They are recognised and highly valued by the community for cultural and social associations in relation to the First World War.
Overall, the Memorial gates at 51-53 Mount Pleasant Road are of LOCAL significance.

DESCRIPTION
The unpainted memorial gates at 51-53 Mount Pleasant Road consist of two crafted, rough-faced square granite piers with shallow obelisk cappings and slightly projecting plinths, and double scrolled metal gates. The left pier has the date "1914" insribed in lead numbering and the right pier has the date" 1918", also inscribed in lead numbering. The gates make a significant contribution to the corner boundary of the Belmont Primary School site and to the Mount Pleasant streetscape.
