AVOCA BRIDGE - History
The Avoca bridge saw three phases- 1863, 1870 and 1956. Preliminary research has not been able to determine which phase the bridge abutments or the drain belong to.AVOCA BRIDGE - Interpretation of Site
Gold was discovered in 1853. The township sprang up and the first Avoca bridge was built in 1863. Subsequent bridges in 1870 and 1956 were built. It is not clear which phase the blue stone abutments belong to. The well constructed drain beside the bridge probably dates to the 19th century and the development of town infrastructure.
