Statement of Significance
Significance of the Individual Property
1.An unusual combination of classical and bungalow elements presenting a fine example of the public face of the well to do in the 1920s boom.
2. An important component in a group of substantially intact houses/fences/gardens from between the wars.
The Burke Road Precinct, Camberwell/Hawthorn East, is an area of heritage significance for the following reason:
- The stretch of residential development on Burke Road hill (south of Camberwell Junction) combines small numbers of Victorian and Federation houses with a series of interwar residences and flat blocks. These are interspersed with later development including undistinguished buildings of post-WWII period. The area has retained a consistent residential scale, despite being adjacent to a major retail and business centre and on a major road.
