What is significant?
The Overend Street Precinct, comprising houses and buildings at 1-11 and 2-12 Church Street, 7 and 8 Dorothy Street, 1-7 and 4-14 Lawrence Street, 11-33 and 8-32 Overend Street, and 115-119 and 114-120 Stewart Street.
How is it significant?
The Overend Street Precinct is of local architectural significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
The Overend Street Precinct is of local architectural significance as a representative collection of modest late 19th century and early 20th century housing constructed on narrow blocks characteristic of Boom period subdivision patterns. The Precinct displays a moderate level of integrity and cohesion of scale and materials. The housing is generally single-storey, with a mix of detached terrace forms. The only originally non-residential building is the double storey bi-chrome brick former bakery and stables at 25-27 Overend Street. Of particular architectural note is the 1880s Italianate villa at 120 Church Street.
Non-Contributory properties include:
Church Street: 5-11 and 12.
Overend Street: 21 and 30.-

The Overend Street Precinct, which adjoins the eastern end of the Blyth Street Precinct, is a predominantly residential area which was developed in the 1890s and early 1900s. The housing is generally single-storey, with a mix of detached and terrace forms. The only originally non-residential building is the double storey bichrome brick former bakery and stables at 25-27 Overend Street.
Of particular architectural note are the 1880s Italianate villa on the south-east corner of Stewart and Church Streets, which apparently retains painted ceilings depicting landscape scenes, and the row of narrow single-storey bay-fronted brick terraces at 10-16 Overend Street.
The Precinct also includes Lynall Hall at the corner of Church and Overend Streets constructed in 1929, at the rear of the 1888 former Independent Church facing Blyth Street.
Street planting in the Precinct includes Eucalyptus and a few exotic trees in Overend Street and Melaleuca in Lawrence Street. Traditional street elements have been retained including bluestone kerbs and gutters and asphalt footpaths in Church, Lawrence and Stewart Streets. Some bluestone rear lanes have also been retained.
The following buildings have individual datasheets in the Moreland Heritage Review: Building Citations (1998):
