The Clyde Methodist Church (former), constructed in 1909, at 26 Railway Road, Clyde.
How is it significant?
The Clyde Methodist Church (former) is of local historic, socially and aesthetic significance to the City of Casey.
Why is it significant?
Historically and socially, the Clyde Methodist Church (former) is significant as the earliest surviving public building in Clyde, which demonstrates the development of the new township around the railway station in the early decades of the twentieth century. As well as being a church for a long period, it was the venue for the first Clyde State School and has strong associations with the local community. (AHC criteria A4, D2 and G1)
Aesthetically, the Clyde Methodist Church (former) is significant as a well-preserved example of a simple Carpenter Gothic church, which is an important element in the Clyde township precinct. (AHC criteria E1)
