REVISED STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE, CONTEXT, 2010
What is significant?
The fabric associated with the c1880s wattle and daub miner's cottage known as Sloan's cottage (later called Moonlight cottage).
How is it significant?
The wattle and daub cottage is historically, socially and technically significant to the Shire of Nillumbik.
Why is it significant?
The cottage is historically and technically significant for its association with the period of gold mining in the district and as a rare example of wattle and daub construction (Criteria A, B & F). The cottage is socially significant for its long association with the Warrandyte artistic community, especially Potter's Cottage and the artists Clara Southern and James Wigley (Criteria G & H).

Moonlight Cottage is of local significance:
- For its association with the period of gold-mining in the district in the 1890s
- As a rare example of a wattle-and-daub construction
- For its long association with the Warrandyte artistic community, especially Clara Southern, Potter's Cottage and with James Wigley.

Sloan's cottage - Physical Description 1
This wattle & daub miners cottage has a stone chimney, an added front verandah and a fibrous cement sheet clad rear addition. The house is set in mature planting below and near the Kangaroo Ground Warrandyte Road (obscured). It is typical ofthe pise or plastered lathe houses built in mining areas and may have predated the freehold as was often the case where miners rights were granted on goldfields,
