Statement of Significance
The Black Street footbridge is important at the State level as one of only two remaining examples of a small group of railway footbridges of standard design distinguished by the use of small lattice girders for their main spans. Its importance is enhanced by its close visual and functional association with the registered Middle Brighton Station Complex and also by its location within a proposed historic area within the City of Brighton. Although once representative of two other footbridges on the Sandringham railway and possibly other examples at other locations, it compares only with the surviving example at Oak Avenue, Elsternwick.
