Statement of Significance
Designed by F J Brearly and erected in 1895, this single storey residence was built for William Leeming who owned several boot shops in Melbourne. Currently owned by the Royal Childrens Hospital, this elegant house was constructed of rendered brick on a bluestone base and the slate roof still has the original decorative ridge cast iron work. The verandah on two sides of the house has the original coloured mosaic floor tiles and also has attractive cast iron trim to the close coupled columns. Internally there are original magnificent ornate plaster ceilings, archways, cornices etc, carrying polychromatic painted decoration, some notable panels of stained glass and several excellent examples of carved timber fireplace surrounds, pediments and other joinery retaining original finishes.
