Statement of Significance
The area is defined by Gratton Street to the north, Victoria Street to the south and the eastern side between Pelham and Queensbury Street is excluded.
A significant street of nineteenth century housing still largely intact, with examples from each decade in the street's development. This is one of the best coherent areas of nineteenth century terrace housing in Melbourne and represents the variety of types, styles, and standards common to the period. Of particular note within the area is the diversity of architectural ornament and stylistic treatment, the collection of cast iron ornament, and examples of houses which were remodelled during the century in response to changing tastes and rising aspirations.
