Statement of Significance
The row of three terrace houses was erected in 1884 for Dr. Willilam Fletcher. The architect was Norman Hitchcock. The three storey brick structure with bay windows on the ground floor has a three storey verandah, a rendered cornice and parapet with pedimented name plate, and polychrome brick decoration around the openings.
Holcombe Terrace is a fine example of boom style terrace architecture and notable among the works of Norman Hitchcock. The polychrome brickwork, cast iron verandahs and rendered cornice comprise a typical boom composition. The scale of the buildings give them extra importance. The gigantic fence piers are particularly notable. The terrace is a prominent feature of the Drummond Street area and a fine example of a building type which is a distinctive feature of inner suburban Melbourne.
Some of the brickwork has been painted. The verandah balustrades have been filled in. The cast iron palisade fence with giant brick piers is original.
