Statement of Significance
The land on which Field Place stands was originally obtained from the Crown by John Bakewell in 1852. By 1875 a small cottage and farm buildings stood on the site. In 1875, the property was bought by Francis Henty, youngest son of Thomas Henty, and the manager of Merino Downs from 1842. Henty built a new single storey house adjoining the original cottage and named it after the house in Sussex where he had been born. He died in the house in 1899 but the property remained in the Henty family until 1961.
The house and original cottage have been so extensivley altered as to be unrecognisable and therefore are not worthy of inclusion on the Register.
