Built in 1863 replacing an 1859 hotel which was where the first rules for what became Australian Rules Football were drafted in the same year. In 2010, the hotel was unsuccessfully nominated to the Victorian Heritage Register. In 2017-18 the front rooms depth of the building was retained as part of development of a 20 storey apartment building behind.
