Statement of Significance
The northern end of Whiteman Street, between Kingsway and Queen's Bridge, is notable not only for containing a number of early corrugated iron buildings and brick warehouses but for retaining much of the appearance and the ambience of those industrial streetscapes which used to be found else where in South Melbourne at a time when the area was the centre for engineering enterprise and excellence in Victoria. It is the last surviving example of this kind of environment in Melbourne.
