Statement of Significance
The Sorrento Hotel (1872-74) is historically significant at a regional level as the Mornington Peninsula's oldest hotel and for its association with P J Martin, a leading brewer and merchant. The hotel is also significant because the stone mason, John Farnsworth, was brought from Adelaide to construct it, and he became the main local builder. The building has minor architectural interest because of its fine Moderne interior plasterwork, and it is a prominent landmark in the area.
