Statement of Significance
A brick house built c 1856 for Frederick Cade, one of Melbourne's earliest chemists, is of significance, firstly as a rare surviving example in Victoria of the, once common, NSW Colonial period villa, with simple hipped slated roof, steeply pitched concave encircling verandah, unusual bracketted eaves detailing and remnants of its Victorian period garden; but also for its long association with the Cade family (from the 1850' s until 1987). The two storey garage and flat of the 1940's is excluded.
