Statement of Significance
Kamillaroi, 45 St Georges Road, Toorak, is of State architectural importance. Built in 1909-11 for Clive Baillieu to designs prepared by Butler & Bradshaw, it was originally a large and much celebrated example of the Arts & Crafts, English Domestic Revival manner employed by this significant and much admired firm in the early years of this century. Substantial and well publicised alterations by W & R Butler & Martin in the mid-1920s saw the building become an exemplar of the related Old English Revival which was to gather in popularity from that time. The quality of the building's design and detail, its substantial integrity relative to its mid-1920s modified scheme, its associations with Butler, its location within a substantial and mature garden also Butler designed and its landmark status as a prominent house in Toorak are all factors which identify this as one of the key domestic buildings to survive from the early decades of this century in Victoria.
