Statement of Significance
Designed by Public Works Department architect John H Marsden in 1890, the Collingwood Post Office is architecturally significant at a State level for its flamboyant mannered form designed with Italian Baroque influences. This form is notable for the powerful articulation of the original central entry bay surmounted by a prominent clock tower and flanking loggias at two levels.
The Collingwood Post Office is a major element in Smith Street and reflects the increased commercial importance of the street as a result of the extension of the Cable tram network.
Classified: 16/12/1992
