Statement of Significance
The mural is important for its local history and the changing lifestyle of the people of the region. It describes pictorially and in detail The Beginnings, The First Settlers, Gold, The Builders, Turn of the Century, 1914-18 War, Science and Technology and the Computer Age. This sociological history includes recurring themes such as the role of women in society, science, agriculture, industry, sport and fashion.
The mural is unique in Australia. It is the first mosaic mural to depict a regional history. The mural is durable and virtually indestructable. Therefore the public can touch the work and touch their own history.
