Statement of Significance
The former police stables, a brick building built 1870. Part of the Justice precinct (Ford Street, Williams Street and High Street), Beechworth Historic Area. (See B2501 for description of the historic area.)
Beechworth is a picturesque nineteenth century provincial town which was the administrative and commercial centre of Victoria's north-eastern goldfields. There are, within the town, a large number of historical and architecturally significant buildings. Of particular interest is the common usage of local granite in construction. Its honey colour imparts a quality distinctive to Beechworth. Classified local: Classified: 14/03/1974
