Statement of Significance
File note 21/09/2012
The building was demolished after it closed in 1994. The foundation stone was originally laid by Charles Lamond Forrest, the then member for Polwarth in November 1888 and soon after the post office building was built. The stone went missing after the demolition but 25 years later it was located as a stepping stone for a building at the Winchelsea Golf Course. The historic foundation stone is now located in Mountjoy Parade incorporated into a wooden frame.
