Statement of Significance
Location or Context:
A tree which occurs in a unique location or context and so provides a contribution to the landscape.
Outstanding Size:
A tree outstanding for its large height, trunk circumference or canopy spread.
Historical Value:
A tree commemorating a particular occasion (including plantings by Royalty) or having an association with an important historical event.
A row of five trees, three of which are fine examples of the variegated cultivar. The specimen at the northern end of the row is a particularly good example of the species. The land on which these trees stand formed part of the pre-emptive right purchased by Rivett Henry Bland, manager of the successful Port Phillip& Colonial Gold Mining Company, one of Victoria's most significant gold mines. Bland erected his residence on the site circa 1867-88 with a substantial garden around it. These trees were probably planted in the 1870s as part of this early garden layout. Recent clearing works along the creek may place the trees under stress.
