Localised distribution
This tree is the only known example of Pinus gerardiana in cultivation in Victoria. The tree has an attractive form with needles occurring in threes, 8-12 cm long and cones 10-20 cm long and 8-12 cm wide, similar to Pinus roxburghii. The bark is very attractive, grey and scaly, peeling off to reveal green patches. It is a native of the Himalayas, occurring on the borders of Kashmir, Tibet and Nth Afghanistan andproduces edible nuts.
