Statement of Significance
Contribution to the landscape
Outstanding size
This venerable specimen is the sole remnant of the market garden that serviced the local gold diggings community in the early 1900s. A cavity at the base of the tree was filled with concrete in approximately 1978 but it still continues to fruit profusely and shows satisfactory extension growth. Pyrus communis, is native to central and eastern Europe and southwest Asia and is one of the most important fruits of temperate regions.
The tree is located south of the homestead (now Waterholes Guest House)
