Statement of Significance
Contribution to landscape of historic garden
Rare or localised
Located opposite the bridge over the canal, this is an excellent specimen of Crows Ash. Its compact canopy, dark foliage and unusual bark is particularly attractive. Flindersia australis is a rainforest tree from New South Wales and Queensland and grows up to 40 metres high, with larger trees having a buttressed trunk. This species is very rare in cultivation in Victoria. The only other known specimens in Victoria occur in the Royal Botanic Gardens.
