Statement of Significance
What is significant?
The former St John's Presbyterian (later Uniting) Church opened in January 1923, at 3 Main Street, Welshpool, is significant. It is a small Carpenter Gothic building with modest detailing. Like other examples of this style, it is a timber-framed structure with a gabled roof, a gabled porch, and a skillion vestry. Contributory features include: The gabled porch with timber shingles to the gable end, and timber ledge entry door The nine-pane timber windows. The Health Department vents along the ridge. The simple weatherboard gabled hall.

How is it significant?
The former St John's Presbyterian Church is of local historic and aesthetic significance to South Gippsland Shire.
Why is it significant?
Historically, it is associated with the development of Welshpool in the early twentieth century as a result of closer settlement, which resulted in the need for a permanent church. The building and hall served the Presbyterian and Uniting church congregations for over 70 years. (Criterion A)
Aesthetically, while a simple design it is enhanced by distinctive details such as the multi-pane windows and timber shingling to the porch gable end and is an historic landmark within Welshpool. (Criterion E)
