This place is included on the Victorian Heritage Inventory, for its potential to contain historical archaeological remains associated with the settlement and growth of early Melbourne. Under the terms of the Heritage Act 2017 there is protection for all historical archaeology sites and objects in the state.

272-282 LONSDALE STREET - Heritage Inventory Description
Land sold at public auction 1847. Allotment 7 Section 28 was purchased by Messrs Payne, Glass & Brochi. 1849/50 - "house, shop, 4 rooms, kitchen, slaughterhouse and shed". Brick building and timber outbuilding shown on 1855 Bibb survey plan. This building apparently lasted on site with some alteration/refurbishment into the 1970s.
