This place is included on the Victorian Heritage Inventory, for its potential to contain historical archaeological remains associated with the settlement and growth of early Melbourne. Under the terms of the Heritage Act 2017 there is protection for all historical archaeology sites and objects in the state.

214 LITTLE BOURKE STREET - Heritage Inventory Description
Site (# 214-220) owned by John Hughes 1860s. Timber and iron store on site. Chinese living on site from 1862. Rebuilding 1882/3, timber store became brick on two levels, owner: Mrs Sarah Hughes. Chinese occupation/ uses continued (cf 212 Little Bourke St).1880 - single storey building. 1888 & 1905 - 2 storey building.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Continuously occupied by Chinese in Melbourne's Chinese district.
