MONTROSE QUARRY HOUSE SITE - History
THE LOT (VOL 6573/FOL 504) WAS ORIGINALLY SOLD AS A SUB-DIVISION OF THE CROWN ALLOTMENT 38 IN 1942 TO MR NICHOLLS AND MR JACKSON. THE LOT CHANGED HANDS THREE MORE TIMES UNTIL MR CALLM SOLD THE PROPERTY TO ALBION REID PTY LTD IN 1968. THE HOUSE SITE IS LIKELY TO DATE FROM THE OCCUPATION OF THE SITE FROM THE EARLY 1940S TO THE EARLY 1950S. THE HOUSE IS LIKELY TO HAVE BEEN DISMANTLED SOMETIME AFTER ALBION REID TOOK OVER OWNERSHIP OF THE PROPERTY.MONTROSE QUARRY HOUSE SITE - Interpretation of Site
THE HISTORIC SITES IN THE STUDY AREA ARE ALL RELATED TO THE RURAL AND RESIDENTIAL USE OF THE PROPERTY PRIOR TO BORAL QUARRIES' PURCHASE OF THE PROPERTIES FROM ALBION REID PTY LTD AND MR CALLAM. REMNANT FRUIT TREES ARE EVIDENCE OF THE USE FOR SECTIONS OF THE STUDY AREA FOR ORCHARDING. THE RECTANGULAR PITS SOUTH OF BQ HOUSE SITE 1 MAY HAVE BEEN USED FOR THE FISH HATCHERY THAT MR CALLAM OPERATED ON THE PROPERTY. (SEE ALSO SITE CARD.)
