MONTROSE QUARRY HISTORIC ARTEFACT SCATTER - History
THE LOT WAS ORIGINALLY SOLDS AS A SUB-DIVISION OF THE CROWN ALLOTMENT 38 IN 1942 TO MR NICHOLLS AND MR JACKSON. THE LOT CHANGED HANDS THREE MORE TIMES UNTIL MR C CALLAM SOLD THE PROPERTY TO ALBION REID PTY TLD IN 1968. THE ARTEFACTS WITHIN IN THE DUMP INDICATETHAT THE DUMP IS LIKELY TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE EARLIEST OCCUPATION OF THE PROPERTY FROM THE EARLY 1940S TO THE EARLY 1950S. THE AUSTRALIAN GLASS MANUFACTURERS (AGM) MARK ON SEVERAL OF THE DOMESTIC BOTTLES DATE FROM 1934 TO 1948. (ARNOLD 2002:4)MONTROSE QUARRY HISTORIC ARTEFACT SCATTER - Interpretation of Site
Used as pastoral land in early 20th century until purchase by Boral Quarries. Now reserve "buffer" land at Boral's Montrose Quarry.
MONTROSE QUARRY HISTORIC ARTEFACT SCATTER - Archaeological Significance
As the site is to be left reserved as buffer land for the quarry, and no occupation has taken place since Boral's ownership, it is likely the integrity of any archaeological deposits are intact. The site is not a rare site type within the state.

MONTROSE QUARRY HISTORIC ARTEFACT SCATTER - Heritage Inventory Description
Dump of domestic and rural artefacts dating from the early to mid-20th century. Artefacts in the dump include bottle glass, ferrous metal, ceramic tableware, terracotta, butchered bones, complete medicine bottles with Bakelite lids, broken grinding stone, stoneware jars and two broken garden forks.
