Statement of Significance
The Grellet house, 56 Grellet Road, Great Western, has significance as a predominantly intact example of the late Victorian style. Built in 1909 under the ownership of a Mr. Grellet, the house appears to be in good condition when viewed from a distance.
The Grellet house, 56 Grellet Road is architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates original design qualities of a late Victorian style. These qualities include the hipped roof forms, together with the hipped verandah that projects towards the front. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the single storey height, corrugated profile metal roof cladding, horizontal timber wall construction, narrow eaves, timber framed double hung windows and the timber framed central doorway under the verandah. The early mudbrick kitchen adds to the significance of the place.
The Grellet house, 56 Grellet Road, is historically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with residential developments at Great Western in the early 20th century. In particular, this house is associated with the Grellet family early winemakers at the Great Western Vineyard and local winemakers and farmers.

The Grellet house, Midway Road, Great Western, has a large garden setting. The house is set at a short set back from the road boundary.
The single storey, horizontal timber weatherboard, late Victorian styled house is characterised by hipped roof forms, together with a hipped verandah that projects towards the front. These roof forms are clad in corrugated steel. Narrow overhangs are features of the eaves. Other early features of the design include the timber framed double hung windows, and the central timber framed doorway.
There is an early mudbrick kitchen behind the house.
